Television writer and producer Scott Nimerfro, who worked on Once Upon a Time and Hannibal, passed away today after a year long battle with cancer.

Though the cause of his death is unknown, Nimerfro began a tough battle with angiosarcoma almost a year ago today after a cramp in his shoulder alerted him to a greater issue. Best known for his work on Hannibal and Once Upon a Time as an executive producer, Nimerfro also penned episodes of each show as well as Fuller’s other passion project, Pushing Daises.

A few months ago, Nimerfro participated in the making of a video that told his cancer story. From a false read to a slip of the tongue that led to him to discover that he did in fact have malignant tissue over a phone call for physical therapy, Nimerfro’s journey was moved into a rush to figure out an action plan. His very moving story from diagnosis to clinical trials and beyond is documented here.
RIP to our dear friend and #OnceUponATime colleague @ScottNimerfro — a lovely man and a true talent, we love and miss you.

For fans of Once Upon a Time, you will recognize Nimerfro’s work in season 4 episodes that include, “Breaking Glass,” “Shattered Sight,” and “Heart of Gold,” which he co-wrote with Kalinda Vasquez and Tze Chun respectively. Hannibal viewers will certainly remember Nimerfro’s work from the episodes, “Coquilles,” “Rôti,” “Savoureux,” “Takiawase,” and “Su-zakana.” But those are just his writing credits. Nimerfro has his hand on plenty of content across these shows including most of season 4 and the first half of season 5 of Once Upon a Time.
Thank you for your contributions to our favorite shows, Mr. Nimerfro. Our thoughts are with his family and close friends at this time.
