Stressing over what to wear this year for Halloween? Are you looking to hit multiple festivities in one day? Tastemaker, actress, and YouTube/internet star Meg DeAngelis (AKA “MayBaby”) has a few Halloween costume tips for you!
What’s up guys? It’s Meg! Halloween lands on a Monday this year, which can present quite the predicament… “What do I wear for the weekend and also on actual Halloween??” Do not fret! I’m here to share my tips and tricks for planning the perfect costume that can transition from daytime festive to spooktacular soirée. With a few minor adjustments and a little wizardry, you’ll be the queen of Halloween wherever you go.
- Pick a statement prop or accessory. Sometimes the best Halloween costume ideas come from the accessory section of a Halloween store. Think: cat ears, crowns, firefighter hats, vampire teeth, fairy wings – whatever draws your attention first. Having a key piece like this will allow you to dress your costume up or down for all occasions.
- Make it fun and flirty at night! Once you have your key accessory, think of how you can spice it up. You’re going to want to bring out the fierceness when the moon rises. Get creative with your makeup — add lashes, glitter and any character accentuating features (YouTube is a great resource for makeup tutorials).
- Or, add layers for a more conservative look. Who said Pocahontas didn’t wear pants? As long as you have some defining accessories, you can make your costume work with almost any wardrobe staples.
- Tone it down for daytime. This is where the bold accessory trick shines. If you’re rocking your kitty ears, no one at school or work can object to the fact that you are indeed a cat. Meow. You can even wear something from your daily wardrobe, but jazz up your makeup a bit with a bold lipstick or even some drawn on whiskers… if you’re feeling frisky.
- Keep it versatile. Fill your costume closet with items that can transform into multiple outfit options. A pair of black jeans can be used for anything from a 90’s grunge rocker to a mime. Just change your top, and you have a completely new ensemble.
Bonus Halloween costume tip!
Commit to your character, and have fun with it! Remember, above everything else, Halloween is for having fun! Don’t stress out too much over Halloween costume ideas, as long as you’re feeling festive and out to have a good time, you’ll look amazing whatever you decide to be.
