The new Guardians of the Galaxy ride at Disneyland’s California Adventure is about to open, and today we have video of what it’s like to ride the revamped attraction.
Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! has replaced the classic Tower of Terror ride at California Adventure. This move was greeted with mixed reactions from fans — Tower of Terror was still at hit ’til the very end, so it was hard to see it go.
But Disney appears keen to get more super heroes in its parks so it can compete with modern stories and worlds like Universal’s Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Thus, a Guardians of the Galaxy spinoff of Tower of Terror is now a thing.
This wasn’t a bulldoze-and-rebuild project. California Adventure redid the interior and exterior of the Tower of Terror show building. As you can see, the exterior is objectively ugly:
Despite all of Disney’s questionable decisions, the ride looks pretty cool. There’s an impressive Rocket Racoon animatronic that greets you in the queue, and the ride itself still employs the quick lifts and drops that made Tower of Terror such a hit. Unlike the grim mood of Tower of Terror, Guardians appears to be much more upbeat, with some rock ‘n roll playing during your experience (And the music changes each time you ride it).
Still, as we watch this video and see the structure of the old Tower of Terror still in place, it hurts our soul to see the Guardians take over. Sorry for my bias — I’m a diehard Disneyland fan.
