Amelia Shepherd and Arizona Robbins overcame two career defining hurdles. Amelia completed the 18 ours surgery to remove Nicole Herman’s brain tumor while Arizona performed her first solo fetal surgery despite the lack of confidence from her surgical team. Despite Amelia’s heroic attempt to successfully remove the tumor and leave no signs of damage, Dr. Herman wakes up completely blind. Her optic nerve was far too damaged to make a full recovery from the stress the tumor placed on it. But she is able to figure out the next step of her life, a chance should would not have had otherwise.
