Some focus their attention on the Alpha Pack, some would rather focus on who’s murdering all these people, but we’re mystified with one thing over all of that: who is Greenberg, and why does Coach hate him so much?!
It’s Teen Wolf Takeover month on Hypable.com, and today’s article examines the mysterious character Greenberg. Read all of our TWT articles here and submit your own!
Whenever we see a scene with Coach teaching the kids, whether it’s economics, history, or lacrosse, he always seems to call out Greenberg and his lack of ability to do anything.
We’ve compiled a list of reasons as to why Coach might have this vendetta against the poor guy – let us know which you think it is!
Family drama.
It’s been a known issue that some teachers would have personal vendettas against the parents of certain students, and therefore treat the kids unfairly to get back at them in some twisted way. Maybe Coach tried dating Mrs. Greenberg in high school and got painfully rejected, or he had a falling out with his ex-best friend, Mr. Greenberg, and decides to take it all out on the poor son. Either way, it’s a pretty evil agenda!
Trust issues.
Just think about it, it’s the championship lacrosse game and Greenberg fumbles and loses the team’s chance to score the winning point. That’d be pretty embarrassing for Greenberg, and also really annoying to Coach! We can absolutely see how this unseen game before season 1 would have made Coach stop trusting Greenberg at all, therefore treating him as someone who’s completely incompetent.
Greenburg is actually a failure.
As far as we know, we’ve never seen Greenberg play the field, or do well on a test, or toss a coin in a cup. Maybe it’s all Greenberg’s fault and Coach is just saving him from embarrassment. There are people all over the world that can’t help that they’re bad at almost everything they do, and maybe Greenberg is one of those. Although we have hope that he’s just an underdog, maybe he’s just…bad.
Pure unadulterated hatred.
And then there’s the classic pure hatred card. Perhaps it’s just a primal instinct for Coach to hate on Greenberg, much like it’s Scott’s primal instinct to turn on a full moon or Stiles’ primal instinct to be funny at every dramatic turn for our comic relief. Perhaps one of the meaner reasons for Coach to treat Greenberg the way he does, but it still makes sense!
Or maybe we’ll never know.
We’ve never seen Greenberg on camera and maybe we never will, therefore leaving it the one mystery we’ll never get answered even if Teen Wolf ends. It’s oddly reminiscent of Wilson, Tim Allen’s neighbor in Home Improvement, who’s face was always half hidden when shown to the audience. Perhaps Jeff Davis just wants to keep Greenberg as an off camera character, leaving our imagination to what he looks like and why Coach hates him.
It’d definitely be hysterical if fans are constantly left wondering who Greenberg is and why Coach hates him, and it’s an option we kind of love.
Maybe we’re reading too much into a teen drama, but maybe we haven’t analyzed Greenberg enough! What do you guys think?
