Now that Bioshock Infinite has been pushed back from its October 16 release date, Take-Two has an empty spot in its fall lineup that could be filled by Grand Theft Auto V, according to one analyst.

Michael Pachter of Wedbush Securities wrote yesterday that he believes the delay of Bioshock opens the window for Grand Theft Auto V to release this year.

Pachter believes Bioshock Infinite was not just delayed to make it “even more extraordinary,” as Ken Levine put it, but because Rockstar “notified Take-Two that GTA V would be ready for October,” and the company did not want to cannibilize sales of either title.

Borderlands 2 and XCOM: Enemy Unknown are both set to launch for the company in the fall, also.

He does have history on his side, as Pachter wrote that Rockstar “has scheduled every prior GTA release during that month.”

Pachter believes we could learn about an official date as soon as May 22 during a quarterly investor call or possibly at E3 in June.

Would the replacement of Grand Theft Auto V effectively fill the hole left by Bioshock Infinite‘s delay?
