Crane is on a mission and won’t stop until he succeeds. Find out what happened on Gotham season 1, episode 15, “The Scarecrow,” with our recap.
Mooney wakes up in an usual surrounding where everyone is fighting to survive. She makes a quick impression on the others. After managing to take down the man in charge of the prisoners, she gains all the power and weapons.
What does disturb Mooney is when a former prisoner is returned, but this time without her eyes.
Gordon manages to have fun and take his mind off the job, and all it took was more dates with Leslie. And soon they will get to spend even more time together as she’s going to be the medical examiner at the GCPD.
Crane is at it again and he’s using the adrenal glands he’s taking for some weird science experiment.
When Bruce decides he wants to go on a hike, Alfred is worried (as he always is). It’s the same one that Bruce always took with his father, but this is his first time going alone.
Everything goes fine at first, until Bruce isn’t paying attention and falls down a hill. Now he’s injured and a storm roles in. He manages to fashion himself a splint. When he climbs up the hill, he finds Alfred waiting with a fire and food. Even though Bruce says he wants to go home, Alfred convinces him to stay the night and see the sunrise like he used to.
Back in Gotham, Penguin tells Falcone what happened with Maroni. He’s worried that Maroni will go after him. But Falcone just wants to know what Penguin plans to do with Mooney’s club. Falcone explains that Penguin is to be working for him publicly now so they can get back full control.
At a meeting, Maroni informs Falcone that he won’t be stopped from killing Penguin. Falcone only replies, “So be it.” Meanwhile, Penguin gets ready to open the club in 10 hours. However, they manage to make a deal when Falcone shows Maroni that he has a judge that’s put away many of his men.
Determined to find Crane, Bullock tracks down where he worked as a biology teacher, only to find that Crane hasn’t shown up in work in about three weeks. But they do find out that Crane had written an academic paper that theorized fear was an evolutionary flaw in humans. Crane was taking the adrenal glands to try to cure himself of fear.
Bringing the evidence to Nygma, he believes that Crane was inoculating himself against fear and was targeting the phobics to get a concentrated amount. And it’s not just himself he’s trying to cure, but also a second subject. Nygma also reports that Leslie is much better than the old medical examiner.
Getting ready for the big opening of the club, Penguin goes to the GCPD to give Gordon an invitation. What he wasn’t expecting was to be followed by Nygma and have to answer riddles. But Gordon comes down and tells Penguin he’s not interested in going. He doesn’t want Penguin’s help anymore, and says it was a mistake to ask for his help last time.
At home, Crane is pleased, as he believes he’s cured himself of fear. Next he wants to try it on Jonathan, his son. But Jonathan isn’t taking to cure as well as his father did. Jonathan doesn’t want to take the second shot, but his father insists.
Bullock and Gordon track down Crane at the old house where his wife died. Determined not to waste all of his work, Crane injects the rest of the experiment into Jonathan. It doesn’t go well at all and Jonathan yells in horror as the scarecrow above him seems to come alive.
The lack of fear seems to be a disadvantage to Crane now, as he shoots at Gordon and Bullock. But they shoot him down before any damage is done to them. Jonathan, however, is convulsing on the ground.
The opening of the club doesn’t go so well for Penguin when only a few tables are filled. But Maroni shows up and tells him that everything has been settled. However, he wants Penguin to promise not to give away any more secrets. He also promises Penguin that as soon as Falcone is gone, so is their deal.
Working together causes Gordon and Leslie to have their first fight. They don’t agree about showing public displays of affection. But Leslie promises to be discreet.
Checking up on Jonathan, Gordon finds that he almost died from the injection. It seems like the hormones have left a lasting effect. His brain activity shows that he’s in a constant state of intense terror and it may never go away. Now all Jonathan can see is the scarecrow coming after him.
