The final season of Glee is upon us! Check out our character profiles and recaps in preparation for Friday’s premiere.
It’s been a while since we last saw our favorite (and former) Glee Club members. In case you’ve forgotten where they left off, here’s a handy guide to help you out. Check out our Glee season 6 refresher below!
Artie Abrams
Memorable Moment: In season 4 we finally got to meet Artie’s mom (played by Katey Sagal, a memorable occasion on its own). It was refreshing to see the portrayal of a young person who isn’t desperate to leave home. More importantly though, it was a really touching moment between Artie and his mom, to see how appreciative he is of what she’s done for him and how much he cares about her.
Recap: Early on in season 5, Artie and Kitty broke up, just in time for Artie’s graduation from McKinley high school. Artie then moved to New York along with everyone else and started attending film school. He later began filming Mercedes’ tour.
Best Song: “Dream a Little Dream”
Becky Jackson
Memorable Moment: Becky has many fantastic one-liners, but the icing on the cake was definitely the reveal that her inner monologue is Queen Elizabeth II (aka Helen Mirren).
Recap: Upon returning from her suspension after the gun incident, Becky became Sue’s secretary (after Sue fires the other secretary), and she graduated from McKinley. Presumably she’ll continue to be Sue’s helper in terrorizing McKinley students.
Best Song: Poor Becky hasn’t had any songs.
Blaine Anderson
Memorable Moment: The moment many Starkids were waiting for, the moment non-Starkids realized what the fuss was about, was Blaine’s introduction in season 2. His performance of “Teenage Dream” won everybody over instantly, and if that wasn’t enough, later in the episode he stood up to Karofsky for Kurt. The show has never been the same since.
Recap: Blaine proposed to Kurt (who said ‘yes’ *shocker*), he graduated from McKinley, got accepted into Nyada, and moved in with Kurt. Despite lying to Kurt and getting in a fight, the lovebirds reconciled and ended the season on happy terms.
Best Song: “Somewhere Only We Know”
Brittany Pierce
Memorable Moment: It’s easy to laugh at the dumb things Brittany says, but when she told Glee Club she was leaving for MIT, we got to see another side of her. It was a bittersweet moment where she talked about how it hurt her that people called her stupid, and eventually she started believing them. But when she joined Glee Club, they made her feel special, they helped her feel good about herself and because of that, the world sees her better too.
Recap: Brittany miraculously graduated from McKinley, got back together with Santana, and will be travelling on Mercedes’ tour as the lead back-up dancer.
Best Song: “Celebrity Skin”
Burt Hummel
Memorable Moment: Viewers waited with bated breath when Kurt started to tell his dad that he’s gay. Burt said that he knew for a long time and to audiences’ utter relief, Burt said that it’s okay and he accepts Kurt for who he is. Burt hasn’t let Kurt down since.
Recap: Burt witnessed his future son-in-law’s proposal, he attended New Directions’ (losing) Nationals performance, and came to New York to see Kurt after he was beat up from protecting someone being ‘gay bashed.’ Altogether not the most cheerful of seasons for him.
Best Song: Kurt has yet to force his dad to sing a song with him.
Emma Pillsbury
Memorable Moment: After finding out Will was cheating on her, timid Emma took a stand and called him out in front of the entire staff room. It was equal parts funny, shocking, and awesome.
Recap: Emma was not very present in season 5. She held grief counselling sessions in “The Quarterback,” she got pregnant, and had a successful birth to a boy she and Will named Daniel Finn.
Best Song: “I Could Have Danced All Night”
Finn Hudson
Memorable Moment: It’s hard to pick the most memorable moment for Finn. He’s had many: good, bad, funny, sad, uplifting, heartbreaking. Perhaps his most memorable moment isn’t even his. What better way to show how wonderful someone is than by seeing what other people thought of him? “The Quarterback” demonstrated just how important Finn was to Glee Club and everyone involved. Everyone had their own moment to share what he meant to them, inspiring many viewers to reflect themselves, and remember all that was Finn Hudson.
Recap: The last we saw Finn he was reconciling with Will and about to help teach Glee Club, simultaneously earning a teaching degree. Of course, Glee Club was cancelled in season 5 but it looks like Rachel is going to do her best this season to bring it back. Finn would certainly admire her dedication, and if he were still here, he’d be right there beside her.
Best Song: “Not The End”
Kurt Hummel
Memorable Moment: Who could ever forget the moment Glee fans truly fell in love with Glee? “All the single ladies put your hands up!” That’s right, Kurt teaching the football boys the “Single Ladies” dance and performing it at the game was probably the funniest 5 minutes in Glee‘s history. And that was all the way back in season 1!
Recap: Kurt got engaged to on-again-off-again boyfriend Blaine. Despite this, Blaine and Kurt continued to fight throughout the season, but kissed and made up each time. When we left Kurt, he was still in New York, with plans of Blaine moving in with him.
Best Song: “For Good”
Mercedes Jones
Memorable Moment: Hallucinations aren’t uncommon in Glee, and one of the first was when Mercedes starved herself in an effort to lose weight and fit in the Cheerios uniform. A heartwarming moment between Mercedes and Quinn followed, but it was Mercedes’ hilarious hallucination of seeing her friends as food that’s really hard to forget.
Recap: Mercedes moved to New York to work on her album. She and Sam rekindled their relationship but she quickly put out the flame, saying that she didn’t want to hold him back while she’s away touring.
Best Song: “I Will Always Love You”
Mike Chang
Memorable Moment: Yet another mother-son moment came when Mike’s mom told him she supported his dreams, whatever they were, and she would help him talk to his dad about it. She then revealed that dancing might have always been in Mike’s future, as she too loved to dance, but she had given up on her dream because of her father. The two then sealed the moment with a waltz.
Recap: Not much to say about Mike. He popped up here and there last season to show off his sick dance moves, and presumably he is still attending Joffrey Ballet Academy of Dance in Chicago.
Best Song: “Cool”
