Glee co-star Darren Criss has penned two new songs for the final few episodes of the Fox dramedy, and one of them is now available for your listening pleasure.
Update (March 2): Listen to the new song by Criss for this Friday’s new episode titled “Rise”:
—
Original story (February 27): According to THR, one of those songs is titled “This Time” and will be performed by Lea Michele during the two-hour series finale on March 20.
The second is called “Rise” and will be performed by New Directions. The track was co-written by Theo Katzman, Sam Hollander, Andrew Thielk, Eddie Montilla and Korey Richmond and will appear in the new Glee episode airing a week from tonight on Friday, March 6.
“‘Rise’ was a song that Criss and company initially created with the goal of having it featured on Glee — they just weren’t sure when or where the song would fit in,” says THR. “That changed when Criss read ‘The Rise & Fall of Sue Sylvester,’ [episode 10, airing next week] when he realized the lyrics and tone of the song fit in not only with the storyline but also with an actual line of dialogue earlier in the episode about ‘rising from the ashes.'”
Fans of the singer will surely look forward to seeing what Criss has come up with for Glee. Notably, it’s the first time that a cast member of the show has penned a song for it.
Criss will star in Hedwig and the Angry Inch on Broadway later this year. He’s also working on a solo album.
