This week’s Glee will focus on exploring musical “Guilty Pleasures” and for someone in the glee club, this apparently includes ABBA. Fox has released a sneak peek of Glee recreating “Mamma Mia.” You can watch the video below.
Becca Tobin and Kevin McHale commentate as we get a great look at New Directions – and apparently the New York kids as well, in a split performance – putting on ABBA’s “Mamma Mia” in what is labeled an “ode” to the original music video.
Here’s the original “Mamma Mia” video if you haven’t seen it!
Oddly, in the sneak peek, we don’t actually hear any of Glee’s rendition of the classic number. Usually, when behind-the-scenes footage of a Glee performance is released, we get a few snippets of the completed number, but this video takes an extended look at the staging and costumes without providing any preview of the actual song.
The episode will celebrate guilty pleasures, both musical and personal. Gleezone provided this synopsis of the episode:
When Blaine and Sam confess their guilty pleasures to each other (Sam is a macaroni art savant and Blaine likes Wham!), they discover how the honest exchange strengthened the bond of friendship between them. With Finn gone and Mr. Schue out sick, the pair takes charge of the leaderless glee club. In a bid to bring the kids of New Directions closer together, they suggest that for their weekly assignment the gleeks perform songs by their own musical guilty pleasures. What starts out as a very personal and potentially embarrassing exercise soon morphs into a unifying display of friendship, as the kids discover many of them are harboring the same favorites they worried exposing would result in ridicule. Meanwhile, in New York, one of Kurt’s guilty pleasures is revealed, and Rachel learns the truth about Brody, leading her to make an empowered decision about her future.
