Will Girl Meets World include fan favorite Shawn Hunter?
Rider Strong, who played Cory’s best friend Shawn in Boy Meets World, weighed in on the new Disney Channel spinoff starring Ben Savage (Cory Matthews) and Danielle Fishel (Topanga Lawrence) as the parents to main character Riley Matthews.
“I am extremely happy for Ben and Danielle to be able to continue the story,” he wrote on his website. “At this point, I have no official involvement in Girl Meets World.”
He didn’t dismiss the possibility of a guest starring role, however.
“There might be a chance to see some of the BMW cast in a guest spot, and I think it would be nice to find out where our characters have been all these years,” he wrote. “But Girl Meets World will be, and I think it should be, it’s own show. It will be about Cory and Topanga, their daughter, and a new set of characters.”
Although if you’re interested in what Shawn Hunter’s been up to for the past 12 years, Strong wrote a piece for Bullet about just that earlier this year. Here’s hoping he comes out of the basement for an episode or two of GMW.
Looking back on his time as Shawn on the ABC sitcom, Strong had nothing but nice things to say.
“Boy Meets World was a defining aspect of my life, and I cherish those seven years. It was never just a job — on a personal level, many of my best memories and friendships were formed because of it.”
He even shared a behind-the-scenes picture from what looks to be the last episode of BMW.
Girl Meets World, being produced by BMW creator-producer Michael Jacobs, is casting for Riley, her brother Elliot and her best friend Maya. There’s no word yet on when a pilot could air.
