Speaking to the media at the Television Critics Association event on Thursday, HBO reminded A Song of Ice and Fire author George R.R. Martin that he needs to “get busy writing.”
Members of the press asked HBO programming president Michael Lombardo and CEO Richard Plepler were asked about the future of their popular franchises True Blood and Game of Thrones, to which both agreed their is no end in sight for either.
They were also asked if Thrones was headed for a seven-season series, to which Lombardo said that “as far as I’m concerned, they can go on as long as there are stories to tell.”
He added, “I know there are issues with the books and catching up.”
Pleper chimed in. “Our line to George was ‘keep writing,’” Plepler said. “Yes. Get busy writing,” said Lombardo.
Martin has been reportedly taking his time writing the sixth book in his Song of Ice and Fire series. The fifth book was published in July 2011, and the next installment is titled The Winds of Winter.
Fans have been clamoring for the next installment of Song of Ice and Fire since it’s been a long wait. Making matters worse, Martin hasn’t promised any sort of release date for book six.
Game of Thrones season 4 will be based on the second half of A Storm of Swords, the third book in Martin’s series.
