Everlife series author Gena Showalter decides which world her favorite characters would end up in once they head into their Secondlife.
About ‘Lifeblood’ (an Everlife novel) by Gena Showalter
My Firstlife is over, but my Everlife is only now beginning.
With her last living breath, Tenley “Ten” Lockwood made her choice and picked her realm in the Everlife. Now, as the war between Troika and Myriad rages, she must face the consequences.
Because Ten possesses a rare supernatural ability to absorb and share light, the Powers That Be have the highest expectations for her future — and the enemy wants her neutralized. Fighting to save her Secondlife, she must learn about her realm from the ground up while launching her first mission: convincing a select group of humans to join her side before they die. No pressure, right?
But Ten’s competition is Killian, the boy she can’t forget — the one who gave up everything for her happiness. He has only one shot at redemption: beating Ten at a game she’s never even played. As their throw-downs heat up, so do their undeniable feelings, and soon, Ten will have to make another choice. Love…or victory.

Gena Showalter sorts her favorite TV characters into the worlds of the Everlife series
My name is Gena Showalter, and I’m the New York Times bestselling author of the Everlife series. I wanted to introduce my favorite TV characters from shows like New Girl, The Blacklist, and Bones to the worlds I’ve created, where your first life is only a dress rehearsal and real life begins after you die. In the Everlife, there are two realms in power…and they are at war. These realms constantly recruit humans, determined to build their armies.
The Worlds of the Everlife series
Troika: Light brings sight! This realm reveres justice, equality, and freedom of choice. It is known as the “light” realm, not only because the sun never stops shining, but because love and forgiveness are more valuable than gold. Ruled by the Prince of Doves, it is untouched by gloom, and hard work isn’t an expectation but a way of life. If you don’t work, you don’t eat. Equality isn’t an ideal but a standard of living, and fear isn’t tolerated as a necessity but considered a hated foe. Here, logic always trumps emotion. The people are governed by a strict set of rules, and violators can be kicked out of the realm after an extended grace period.
Myriad: Might equals right! This realm reveres autonomy, bliss, and indulgence. It is known as the “dark” realm, not only because it is always bathed in shadows, but because anger and vengeance are encouraged. Ruled by the Prince of Ravens, its citizens cannot tolerate the light of day. If you work hard, great, but always party harder. Here you will find magical forests, and secrets in every corner. Self-indulgence is revered, and the good time never stops. Victors are adored and failures are abhorred. Emotion always trumps logic. Anyone who fails to put the realm first is punished quickly and harshly.
THE BLACKLIST
Liz: She doesn’t just follow the rules, she enforces them. That is why she would pick Troika in a heartbeat.
Tom: To him, breaking rules is often a game. His anger is rarely tempered. He would pick Myriad.
Red: He indulges his every whim, and loves vengeance almost as much as he loves Liz. Myriad.
BONES
Temperance: Her emotions rarely overshadow logic. Troika.
Seeley: On the opposite end of the spectrum, his emotions run the show. Though he’s a Special Agent and follows rules, he’s willing to break those rules to save those he loves. Myriad.
Angela: If you’re looking for a good time, she’s the girl to call. Myriad.
NEW GIRL
Jess: She’s kind to everyone around her, and she couldn’t hold a grudge even if she tried. Troika.
CeCe: In the beginning of the show, she would have signed with Myriad. She loved to party with her friends. Over the series, however, she has learned the value of love and pledged her life to another. Troika.
Nick: Nick would never be able to make a decision. He would waver until he died and then end up in Many Ends (the hellish realm for the undecided).
Schimdt: I have a feeling he could hold a grudge forever and still another day. Myriad.
Winston: He is the male version of Jess — goodhearted and kind. Troika.
