This week’s Geek Gifts offers you the force with a pair of Star Wars shoes, or all of time with a Back to the Future necklace.
Geek Gifts is a weekly feature article written by Donya Abramo and Karen Rought. With every installment, the duo picks out a fandom-related item they’ve recently come across and describes it in loving detail. There are no product placements here. We only talk about items we’re excited to share with the rest of the world.
Your Geek Gifts come in a variety of ways, be it jewelry, clothing, games, or something else entirely. We strive to remain unbiased, and we plan on constantly expanding our own horizons as we search for new and interesting pieces. The only requirement is that it must give us the burning need to open our wallets and throw money at its creator.
With tickets procured for the upcoming The Force Awakens midnight premiere, and my excitement growing by the day, it seemed fitting that I also return with a related item for this week’s Geek Gifts — giving my computer a much-needed break from playing the newest trailer on repeat.
Of course, choosing one item out of the thousands available for this one series is no easy feat, so I figured I’d simplify it. I need some shoes to complete my outfit for the movie’s release, so I took to Etsy to find the perfect pair.
And Etsy didn’t fail me.
These flats are simple and chic, the perfect accompaniment for the outfit I’ve chosen — which, to Karen’s likely glee and not-at-all surprise, includes a floral skirt — and features just the right amount of starlight sparkle. They’re also not completely budget breaking, and could be paired with any other simple, everyday outfit that needs just that little bit of a geek twist.
You could say that, like the Force, they called to me…
Sure, yesterday was Back to the Future Day, but the great thing about this series is that if you’re lucky enough to own a modified DeLorean, you can go back any time you want. Your very own Doc Brown is just an added bonus.
To celebrate, might I suggest getting this cool flux capacitor-inspired necklace. What I love about this is the fact that it’s so simple. Just a few beads strung together in the right pattern and you’ve got a perfect replica of one of the franchise’s most recognizable symbols.
Even better, you can wear this as just a regular necklace. Those in the know will recognize it immediately, but those who aren’t will just see it for what it actually is — a beautiful red and gold conversation piece.
Will you be keeping the force close with these ‘Star Wars’ shoes or traveling through time with your own ‘Back to the Future’ necklace?
