Daenerys finds herself in excruciating straits, while Sansa’s position wavers in Winterfell on Game of Thrones season 5, episode 5.
The episode, ominously titled “Kill the Boy,” will also feature major developments at the Wall, while Tyrion’s journey in Essos grows even more dangerous.
Oh, and also dragons.
Speaking of dragons, Dany really could have used her three “children” in last week’s episode of Game of Thrones. After telling his queen stories of her brother Rhaegar, Ser Barristan Selmy and a troop of Unsullied were cut down by Sons of the Harpy; Grey Worm’s fate remains in the balance. Sansa also learned a few things about the Targaryen prince, before Littlefinger left her alone in Winterfell to return to Kings Landing.

Up at the Wall, Jon Snow rebuffed Melisandre’s breasts sexual advances, while Stannis bonded with Shireen. Way down south, Jaime and Bronn arrived secretly in Dorne – but not secretly enough, as Ellaria and the un-subtle Sand Snakes learned of the Kingslayer’s plans and vowed to start a war.
Good decisions all around.
The still photos for “Kill the Boy” suggest that most of the action in tonight’s episode will be centered on the North. It’s heartening to see Maester Aemon return – hopefully the old man is recovering from his illness – but Sansa’s increasingly intimate interactions with the Boltons are certainly cause for anxiety.
But then again, this is Game of Thrones. What isn’t cause for anxiety?
Game of Thrones season 5, episode 5, “Kill the Boy,” airs tonight at 9:00 p.m. on HBO.
