Duels of words and weapons come to the forefront in the preview and stills for Game of Thrones season 4, episode 8.
Tyrion’s tumultuous trial will finally come to its climax when Game of Thrones season 4, episode 8 airs next Sunday night. The episode, appropriately titled “The Mountain and the Viper,” will focus on the duel between Gregor Clegane and Oberyn Martell, a highly anticipated showdown in King’s Landing and our real world.
But the preview for “The Mountain and the Viper” proves that that duel – which will finally decide Tyrion’s innocence or guilt in the matter of Joffrey’s death – is far from the only showdown which viewers can anticipate this Sunday.
The preview offers tantalizing glimpses of Theon’s newest bout of psychological whiplash, as well as Sansa’s next moves in the Game of Littlefinger. “I have to tell the truth,” she says – but as Tyrion’s trial proves, truth can be a slippery thing in Westeros.
Also in the preview for Game of Thrones season 4, episode 8 are glimpses of a potentially devastating wildling raid on Molestown, and the opening clashes of the titanic battle which will give “The Mountain and the Viper” its name.
The still photos from “The Mountain and the Viper” also indicate that the Arya and Sandor Clegane still have their own battles to fight, as does Daenerys from her high and lonely perch in Meereen.
Hey, Grand Maester Pycelle! We did not miss you.
The official synopsis for Game of Thrones season 4, episode 8 makes it clear that Sunday night’s episode will be keeping quite a few balls of death in the air.
Mole’s Town receives unexpected visitors. Littlefinger’s motives are questioned. Ramsay attempts to prove himself to his father. Tyrion’s fate is decided.
It’ll be fine. Everything is going to be just fine.
Game of Thrones season 4, episode 8, “The Mountain and the Viper,” will air on Sunday, June 1 at 9:00 p.m. on HBO.
