In Game of Thrones season 3, episode 6 “The Climb,” we saw Melisandre break away from Stannis to visit the Riverlands, where she met Beric Dondarrion, and then took Gendry away with the promise that he was important – but why?
At King’s Landing, Tyrion and Cersei found themselves confronted with their unpleasant new reality: they have to marry Sansa and Loras, respectively. By the end of the episode, Tyrion had told Sansa the truth, and she had to watch the ship which she thought would take her to freedom sail away without her.
The episode delivered a truly shocking moment during Littlefinger’s final monologue, when we learned that Joffrey had killed Ros in a horrific way by tying her up and shooting her with his crossbow.
And adding to the terror of this episode, poor Theon went through a torture scene which was very hard to stomach as his tormenter played even more games with him, seemingly punishing him for his betrayal of Robb Stark – who has just promised his uncle Edmure to the Freys in return for their allegiance.
Perhaps the most significant event of the episode was the scaling of the Wall. Jon, Ygritte and the Wildlings finally began their epic ascent, and we can’t wait to see this scene win all the visual effects awards in a few months! Jon and Ygritte almost fell off, too, but luckily they made it to the top!
Despite the dark nature of the episode, Game of Thrones did end on an uncharacteristically uplifting note, with the pair kissing and looking out over Westeros as the sun rose on the kingdom.
Next up is “The Bear and the Maiden Fair,” which we predict will be another fan favourite! Check out the promo:
