It looks like NBC has managed to pull off the impossible and will be bringing together the cast of Friends to celebrate veteran comedy director James Burrows!
Update (January 14): Just one day after the initial announcement, one Friends cast member has already announced they won’t be at the NBC special. Matthew Perry will be in London for rehearsals of his new play and will not be in attendance to tape the special, reports Entertainment Weekly. NBC will likely still try to include Perry in the special somehow, even though he won’t be there in person. It looks like fans will have to hold out longer for a full cast reunion.
Original story (January 13):
According to TV Line the special is expected to be taped later this month and will include Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, David Schwimmer, Matt LeBlanc and Matthew Perry.
NBC head Bob Greenblatt said they’re hoping to get the Friends cast together in one room, but wouldn’t confirm that it’s 100% set yet. At the least, they’ll all be a part of the event.
The special is also expected to bring together the cast members of Taxi, Cheers, Frasier and Will & Grace, The Big Bang Theory and Mike & Molly. Burrows recently directed his 1,000th episode last November with an episode of NBC’s comedy Crowded. During his career, he had directed 15 episodes of Friends.
While the special won’t actually focused on Friends it will definitely be a highlight to see the entire cast back together. We’re crossing our fingers that NBC can really pull this off since the whole cast hasn’t wanted to do any kind of reunion in the past.
Not too long ago, it was revealed that Hollywood’s favorite television show is actually Friends. Despite the fact that the finale aired 11 years ago, it’s still watched by many today.
The Burrows special is currently slated to air Sunday, February 21 at 9 p.m. ET.
