According to Friday the 13th series creator Sean Cunningham, The CW may be adding another horror series to its primetime lineup.
The plot of the potential Friday the 13th TV show would be a reinvention of the entire series. A Friday the 13th fansite reports the following information from Cunningham during a horror convention called Monster Mania:
-The show would be based in a universe reflecting the effects that the Friday the 13th movies had on the real Crystal Lake. Think Stab within the Scream movie series.
-The first killer in the show would be the “real” backwoods killer that Jason was based off of in the movies.
-The second killer in the show would be the fictional character of Jason himself. The mechanics of this might feel a bit like The Ring‘s Samara coming out of the television to chase down hapless victims.
Setting the show in the “real Crystal Lake” may mean that the show will be based at the filming location of the first film, a real camp in New Jersey called Camp No-Be-Bo-Sco. However, this also could mean that the Friday the 13th show would create its own meta version of Camp Crystal Lake meant to replicate the fictional movie location as a real-world one. Confusing, right?
It should be noted that this isn’t the first time a Friday the 13th TV show cropped up. Previously, three seasons of a show titled Friday the 13th: The Series aired in the late ’80s. However, this show did not feature Jason, nor any of the characters of the Friday the 13th movie series.
A fun tidbit is that current The CW stars Danielle Panabaker (Caitlin Snow, The Flash) and Jared Padalecki (Sam Winchester, Supernatural) starred in the last Friday the 13th movie to hit theaters.
