After much nail biting and worrying, New Girl has officially been renewed for a seventh season which will be its last!
Show creator Liz Meriwether celebrated the news on her twitter:

Entertainment Weekly had a few more details to reveal about the renewal, stating that the final season will likely be shorter than it’s usual 22 episodes. It may only be about 8 episodes long!
New Girl was initially a hit but has struggled more recently, with season 6 averaging 2.9 milion viewers and a 1.5 rating among the coveted adults 18-49 category. While that’s still a decent rating, it’s continual decline left the show’s fate uncertain. With the cast saying they believed it could go either way.
The season 6 finale was written in a way that it could close out some storylines, just in case it ended up being the series finale. But luckily it didn’t actually turn out that way because there are still many questions left unanswered.
Going into season 7 fans can look forward to seeing how Nick and Jess learn how to be in a healthy relationship, Schmidt and Cece prepare to become parents, and Winston and Aly get ready for marriage. Personally, I think this could be their best season yet and I’m hoping for as many episodes as possible!
