We’re five seasons into ABC Family’s Pretty Little Liars and we think it’s about time the show shook things up a bit.
Going into the winter premiere of Pretty Little Liars we were excited to see where the plot would go in a world without Mona. However, now that Ali is in jail and ‘A’ seems to still be at large, we feel like we’ve just gone in a huge circle. Sure, we know more information about Ali and her relationships, but the girls aren’t much closer to finding out who ‘A’ is. We came up with four ways that the writers could turn things around and revitalize the series.
Reveal who ‘A’ is
This one is pretty obvious. We’ve already been promised we’ll be getting that answer before season 7, but we elect that it happens sooner rather than later. Right now we feel like we’re right where we started when the show premiered in 2010 and are beginning to feel played by the writers. Revealing who ‘A’ is will be a complete game changer because now ‘A’ is just becoming caricature of a villain and is beginning to lose credibility in our eyes. We’d love to see episodes through ‘A’s’ perspective and possibly even humanize the character.
Make ‘A’ someone we’d least expect it to be
At this point everyone and their mothers (literally) have been accused of being ‘A,’ and we can only play that game for so long. ‘A’s’ reveal will be pretty underwhelming to us unless it ends up being someone huge. We’re thinking one of the Liars themselves. There have been plenty of theories surrounding both Aria and Hannah being ‘A’ and we couldn’t be more excited for that possibility. It would spin everything on its axis and breathe new life into a show that’s beginning to feel stale.

Kill off more characters
We love when shows aren’t scared of killing off characters. Yes, Pretty Little Liars has killed off plenty of characters in its five season run, but Mona was the first murder of a main character. All the other murders have been side characters and ended up being a blip on our radar instead of pushing the story forward. Seeing main characters go is heartbreaking — hello, Game of Thrones — but you can’t deny the benefits of seeing how the story progresses from there. Killing off, say, Emily would be a huge blow to the show and some would say it couldn’t go on without her but at the same time it opens up so many possibilities for the writers.
Have a ‘Pretty Little Liars’/’Orange Is the New Black’ crossover
This one is may be a bit of a stretch but think about it for a quick minute. A blonde white girl from the suburbs of Pennsylvania is suddenly uprooted from her life and friends and lands in prison. From there she learns the ins and outs of life behind bars all while making unlikely friendships and doing her best to keep her enemies at bay.
Alright, maybe that last one is a no-go.
