Don’t leave the theater once the Finding Nemo sequel’s credits begin to roll! Pixar’s latest movie, Finding Dory, includes an after credits scene.
For the fifth time in the studio’s history, Pixar has created an after credits scene for one of its films. Finding Dory’s after credits scene brings back several characters who appeared in Finding Nemo. Can you guess who? Spoiler warning!
The Finding Dory after credits scene brings back the group of fish who were stuck in the dentist office tank, commonly known as The Tank Gang. In present day they’re still swimming in the bags we last saw them in when they escape the office in Australia. Over the past year, Gill, Jacques, Gurgle, Peach, Deb, Bubbles and Bloat have somehow made it to the ocean out front Monterrey, California’s Marine Life Institute, but their bags have grown extremely dirty. The end of the scene depicts them being scooped up by employees who will presumably make sure they’re in good health and then release them back into the ocean. Here they are in Nemo, before their bags got very very dirty:
Pixar is no stranger to including bonus footage during the credits (like bloopers! We miss the bloopers with Monsters, Inc. and Toy Story 2), but this is one of very few times they included a bonus scene for those who stayed in the theater until the very very end. Other films with after credits scenes include Nemo, Cars, Brave, and Monsters University. The studio’s friends over at Marvel — also owned by Disney — have made after-credits scenes one of the most beloved aspects of seeing a new super hero movie, so it’ll be interesting to see if after credits sequencse become a staple of Pixar films, just like short films have.
The Tank Gang are just a few of the memorable characters from Finding Nemo who make a return in Finding Dory. Other classic characters who make a return include Crush, Squirt, and even the MINEMINEMINE seagulls. Despite all the old faces returning, the new movie boasts several excellent new characters including Destiny and Bailey.
As the credits roll for Finding Dory, viewers get to see Hank enjoying life in the open ocean. But why has he been so miserable all these years? Might a Finding Nemo 3 give us Finding Hank?
Finding Dory opened in theaters on Friday, June 17 and made $9.2 million at the Thursday night opening box office, which is a record for an animated movie (Minions is at a distant second with $6.2 million). Read our review here, and help us rank the Pixar movies here!
