The second Fifty Shades movie, Fifty Shades Darker, debuted its trailer on Tuesday, and it kinda broke the internet.
Star Wars fans are going to be none-too-pleased about this one.
Within the first 24 hours of landing online, Variety reports the Fifty Shades Darker movie trailer generated 114 million views around the world on all platforms, like YouTube and Facebook, among others.
The previous record-holder was The Force Awakens, which had 112 million views to its name.
Unsurprisingly, most of those views for the Darker trailer came from the United States, a total of more than 39 million, with the remaining number being divvied up among the rest of the world. The U.K. came in second (18+ million) and Brazil came in third (12+ million).
It currently has 7.5 million views on YouTube.
The synopsis for the movie reads:
When a wounded Christian Grey tries to entice a cautious Ana Steele back into his life, she demands a new arrangement before she will give him another chance. As the two begin to build trust and find stability, shadowy figures from Christian’s past start to circle the couple, determined to destroy their hopes for a future together.

Fifty Shades Darker stars Dakota Johnson, Jamie Dornan, Hugh Dancy, Eric Johnson, Jennifer Ehle, Luke Grimes, Rita Ora, Victor Rasuk, Eloise Mumford, Max Martini, Bella Heathcote with Kim Basinger and Marcia Gay Harden. It’s directed by James Foley.
Author E.L. James recently announced she’s working on a spinoff of Fifty Shades Darker from Christian’s point of view.
The power of the Fifty Shades fandom should not be surprising, as it became the fastest-selling paperback of all time in the U.K.
Now it’s just a matter of what movie — and what fandom — will be next to claim the title. Star Wars, Harry Potter, and Marvel fans are certainly all big contenders.
