In The World’s End, five old friends make a second attempt at completing “The Golden Mile” bar crawl in their old town. The final bar on the crawl is called The World’s End, and to get there they’ll face many obstacles – some much larger than simple pint drinking in the eleven bars before it. The villains taking over the area appear to be a group of robots.

The World’s End’s official synopsis follows:

20 years after attempting an epic pub crawl, five childhood friends reunite when one of them becomes hellbent on trying the drinking marathon again. They are convinced to stage an encore by mate Gary King, a 40-year old man trapped at the cigarette end of his teens, who drags his reluctant pals to their hometown and once again attempts to reach the fabled pub – The World’s End. As they attempt to reconcile the past and present, they realize the real struggle is for the future, not just theirs but humankind’s. Reaching The World’s End is the least of their worries.

The five friends in The World’s End are played by Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Eddie Marsan, Paddy Considine, and Martin Freeman. It opens in theaters July 19 in the U.K. and August 23 in the U.S. We’re looking forward to seeing Wright’s latest piece of work!

Pegg was most recently seen in Star Trek Into Darkness and offered up a nice bit of comedic relief. Freeman stars in BBC’s Sherlock and Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit trilogy.

Nicholas “Slick” Stewart

Kicking off the night, Slick’s audition was most definitely not for the faint of heart. His specialty is flexing, which is a combination of hat tricks, slides, animation, and bone-breaking. Yes, bone-breaking. You’ll see why, as Slick does things with his arms that can’t possibly be healthy or comfortable, eliciting constant screams from guest judge Jesse Tyler Ferguson. Slick impressed with his solo, but couldn’t carry his talent over in the choreography rounds, and was not sent on to Vegas.

Alex Kessinger

18-year-old Alex Kessinger from Riverside, CA overcame her troubled childhood by training with her aunt turned adoptive mother. Her mother looked on proudly as Alex wowed the judges with a very charismatic performance, sending her straight through to the Vegas rounds. There wasn’t even any deliberation, just Mary screaming “Vegaaaaaas!”

Misha Smagin and Mariia Lebedeva

Misha and Mariia are Latin ballroom dancers from New York, and Mariia plays more of a mother and instructor role, keeping Misha in line. After their sexy performance to Jennifer Lopez’s “Let’s Get Loud,” Nigel said Misha was great, while Mariia’s work elicited an enthusiastic “wow!” The judges couldn’t keep their eyes off of Mariia, but sent both dancers straight throught to Vegas.

Emilio “Millie” Dosal

Millie is a 22-year-old Houston, TX native who idolized season 5 contestant Phillip Chbeeb, before eventually joining his crew, and becoming his best friend and roommate. Millie put on an entertaining performance, and the judges put him through to choreography to prove that he could perform outside of his style. He impressed enough there to make it through to the Vegas rounds.

Austin

Donovan Gibbs

Donovan auditioned in order to help out his parents and their dance studio, after financial difficulties forced them to sell their house and car and live out of the studio. His dance was very powerful, and very intense, and expressed the emotion of all his family has been through. Nigel then pulled his father up onstage to battle his son. After some deliberation from the judges, they sent Donovan through to Vegas.

Shane Garcia

Shane has used dance to work through his stutter, and began dancing so that he could speak freely. His routine was so expressive, and so wonderful that it brought judge Mary Murphy to tears. The judges’ praise made even Shane emotional. They were hesitant to send him through to Vegas, unsure of whether he was capable of anything beyond breaking. At this, Shane said, “Because of this [stutter], I am a master at what I do, I can do anything.” His words proved true, as he made it through choreography to the Vegas rounds.

Dannon O’Brien

20-year-old Dannon was one of Austin’s more off-beat contestants. He works for his parents’ haunted house, doing effects make-up and performing, and he brought this sense of drama to his audition, as he writhed onstage at the end of the emotional performance. Guest judge Minnie Driver was so impressed she said, “Clearly you were meant to do that forever.” The judges sent him straight through to Vegas.

Hampton “Exorcist” Williams and Darlesha Goggans

Hampton had one of season 9’s most memorable auditions, and this season he returned with his girlfriend, Darlesha, and 4-year-old daughter, Kira. While most other contestants bring their family members on as a fun joke, the entire Exorcist family was part of the routine, and it was absolutely mind-blowing. Little Kira was the center of the dance, pushing and pulling her parents’ movements. The entire auditorium was on their feet before the performance was even over. Kira is of course too young for the competition, but the judges still sent her to Vegas along with her parents.

Billed as “the first commercial publishing platform that will enable any writer to create fan fiction based on a range of original stories and characters and earn royalties for doing so,” potential authors can write stories about select fandoms and receive 35% of the sale price’s net revenue. The stories will be available for purchase in the Kindle format, and Amazon says they hope to add other formats in the future.

Kindle Worlds is only for particular fandoms because Amazon needed to team up with entertainment powerhouses to make this legal. Their sole license so far is with Warner Bros. Television Group’s Alloy Entertainment. At launch, fans will be able to write and sell fan fiction in the worlds of Gossip Girl, Pretty Little Liars, The Vampire Diaries, and several other fandoms. More licenses are planned soon.

“Seeing Pretty Little Liars fans adapt and create their own stories is both exciting and flattering, and I think what Amazon Publishing is offering through Kindle Worlds is a great way to reward their ingenuity,” said Sara Shepard, author of Pretty Little Liars.

Royalities will be paid out to both the fan fiction author and the original author. Amazon says it is a new revenue stream for franchises.

We love this idea and think it’ll shake up the fan fiction world. We’re eager to see what other licenses Amazon can scratch up.

Which fandoms do you want to see Amazon secure a license with? Our first choices are naturally Harry Potter, Twilight, The Hunger Games, and Glee, but all fandoms would be perfect matches.

Sixteen-year-old Cassie Sullivan is alone. She didn’t used to be alone. Only a few months ago, she had everything you probably have right now: A family. A best friend. Homework. A crush.

But that was before the Arrival, when an alien mothership appeared in the sky and wiped out 97% percent of humanity in four concussive waves of world-wide terror. Cassie is left alone in the woods of Ohio with a teddy bear, an assault rifle, and a promise to keep to her little brother Sammy, who was bussed away by military forces just before the fourth wave crashed down on the remnants of Cassie’s life.

To a certain extent, The 5th Wave evades easy classification. The brutal sci-fi setting also carries deep seeds of romance, and irreverent humor peppers Cassie’s grim mentality like teenaged shrapnel. For a grand-scale post-apocalyptic novel, The 5th Wave doesn’t cover much physical geography. Cassie’s world has shrunk down to the few miles of hushed, abandoned earth which she can walk on her own without being murdered by an alien sniper.

Instead, the story instead spans considerable creative distances. The 5th Wave carries readers through the clinical exactness of Rick Yancey’s extra-terrestrial invasion in vivid detail, each wave more terrifying and palpable than the last. This is hard sci-fi turned devastatingly human, and the range of Yancey’s imagination will keep readers as on-edge as they are impressed.

But it is the emotional space traveled through the novel that really makes The 5th Wave special. The path between hope and despair – between “giving up and getting up,” as one character says – is well-trod by the end of the story, but filled with enough pitfalls and surprising divergences that every step feels new. The story is both that of Cassie’s struggle to survive and a (literally) cosmic struggle of opposites. Love and hate, trust and suspicion, anger and serenity – all machinery of a war which exposes the dissonant truths of what it really means to be human.

Yancey’s skill is such that his philosophical passages often read like action, and high-tension battle scenes become almost meditative in their reflection. He imbues Cassie with a bracing honesty that reflects both her age and her circumstances, and weaves together the stories of other survivors so deftly that you may forget who you are rooting for.

By turns heart-pounding and contemplative (but never – pardon the pun – alienating) The 5th Wave will thrill you, chill you, and challenge you to keep the pages turning fast enough.

“I think Homeland can go on forever,” Lewis told journalists at Cannes yesterday. “Whether Brody can go on forever is a different matter.

“We’ll just play each season as it comes. Writers write themselves into interesting positions, sometimes not wholly expected positions. So it’s a continuing surprise for everybody.”

Lewis may be referring to the fact that many viewers are assuming Brody will have a lesser role on Homeland season 3 because of his emotional departure from his lover and CIA agent Carrie Mathison, played by Claire Danes, during the season 2 finale. The character has also dug himself into a hole that he can not realistically escape from again.

In an interview this past March, Lewis said that Brody and Carrie probably won’t get back together. “I think Brody and Carrie are over,” Lewis said. “I think it’s over. I don’t think those two can be together – can you imagine them being married and bringing up kids? It wouldn’t last long. They’d be in the divorce courts quickly. I don’t think that’s a story that’s got many legs.”

As for how many seasons Homeland will have? “I know they won’t flog it,” he said. “I think once it stops being interesting, they’ll leave it alone.”

Lewis was at the Cannes Film Festival this weekend to promote his new film The Silent Storm, a “poetic romantic drama” shooting this summer with co-star Andrea Riseborough. He was drawn to the project for its superior writing and the fact that he could film it in between new seasons of Homeland.

Homeland season 3 hasn’t started filming yet, but Showtime has already set an air date: September 29, 2013. You can read the season’s official synopsis, which offers spoiler-free clues into the future of the show, in our previous report.

In this episode of Game of Thrones, Tyrion and Sansa got married at King’s Landing. In Yunkai, Daenerys met with the Second Sons, and seemed to win the allegiance of Daario Naharis.

This “Inside the Episode” video explores some of the episode’s key developments, and showrunners D.B. Weiss and David Benioff explain the character motivations behind them:

The first scene they discuss is the one where Davos Seaworth appeals to Stannis’ conscience, trying to stop him killing Gendry.

Benioff explains that Stannis has really come to rely on Davos’ council because despite the fact that he seems blindly devoted to his king, he will always answer him honestly.

“Stannis is a smart man; he recognises that Melisandre has her own agenda,” he says, “she’s serving this Lord of Light, she’s a religious fanatic … he’s just not a fanatic.”

Weiss adds that he’s not willing to take the leap from seeing the proof of her power to believing in her One True God.

Next is the epic scene after Tyrion and Sansa’s wedding, where Tyrion verbally impslaps Joffrey for his lewd suggestions.

“Joffrey can’t abine anybody knowing who he really is,” Weiss explains, and this is why he started hating Sansa when she witnessed his humiliation at Arya’s hand in the first season of Game of Thrones.

Benioff explains that Tyrion is conflicted about this whole situation, because while Tywin is expecting him to produce an heir, he realises that Sansa is much too young and that she really doesn’t want to be with him.

“Despite the fact that he’s somewhat attracted to her, he’s a proud man, and he would hate himself in the morning if he made her do this thing,” Benioff says.

Game of Thrones is off for a week, and season 3, episode 9 “The Rains of Castamere” will air the Sunday after next at 9/8c on HBO.

“Hey, is that you, Juliet?” It may have been dark, but I’d know that voice anywhere. It was deep and incredibly sexy.

I wanted to slip under the water and never come back up. Dylan Bradley was talking to me while I was naked. “Uh, yeah. Hi, Dylan.” To this day, I blame it on the music. If Katy Perry hadn’t been blaring, he might never have looked.

“Isn’t it a little late for a swim?”

“Not really. I like staying up late.” Could I sound lamer?

He disappeared, but I knew it wasn’t over. He reappeared a moment later through a patch of trees.

I treaded water in the deepest part of the pool, hoping the dim lighting hid how completely naked I was.

“Mind if I turn that down?” He pointed up at the speakers.

“Sure. The controls are—”

“Behind the bar. I know.” Dylan had spent plenty of nights swimming at our house. Even though his house was far bigger, his dad had refused to put in a pool. Mr. Bradley claimed that if you were at the beach, you didn’t need a manmade concrete hole to swim in.

Dylan turned off the music. So much for turning it down. “I heard you’re going to Harrison this year.”

“Yeah. I’m actually starting college.” I continued treading water, praying he wouldn’t move any closer.

“Cool. I’ll probably see you around then.”

“Oh yeah, I forgot you were still up there.” Total lie. I was well aware Dylan was a senior at Harrison University. I hated to admit it, but I Facebook stalked him. I’d probably have real life stalked him if we didn’t live five hours away from each other. To say I had a crush on Dylan would be the understatement of the century.

His expression let me know how little he believed me. “Yeah. It’s my last year, but Kyle’s going to be a freshman.”

“Yeah?” I, of course, knew that too, but not from internet stalking. I couldn’t care less about his brother, Kyle. It was Dylan who always had my attention. I’d found out about Kyle’s plans from my mother.

Dylan looked even better than I remembered. Despite the dim lighting, I could see his slight tan—normally it was a lot deeper. I guess his summer internship had kept him from spending as much time at the beach as usual. His brown hair still had just a little bit of a curl to it. He wore it shorter than I’d ever remembered seeing it.

“You look kind of cold. Where’s your towel?” He glanced around.

“Oh, I’m okay.”

“Come on, you can’t stay in the pool all night.”

I would stay as long as I had to.

“Wait a second.” A small smile spread across his face. He walked toward the chairs, and my heart sunk. When he turned back toward me, he had my bikini top wrapped around his hand. “Are you skinny dipping?”

“Umm, maybe.”

“By yourself?”

What was that supposed to mean? “Isn’t that part obvious?”

He grinned. “Wow, I never took you for an exhibitionist.”

“This is a private pool.”

“Now you really need to get out.”

“Shut up. Not until you leave.”

“You’re too cold. You won’t make it that long.”

“You’re wrong.” I sure hoped he was.

“All right. If you’re not getting out anytime soon, I’m going to join you.” He pulled off his t-shirt.

Oh my god. Was Dylan Bradley about to get naked in front of me? I had to be dreaming. This was not the kind of thing that ever happened to me—at least not when I was awake.

The Grey’s Anatomy season 9 finale “Perfect Storm” didn’t leave fans wondering when Callie would find out about Arizona’s infidelity. Having experienced a cheating spouse in her first marriage to George, it seemed she was in tune to being lied to.

According to Grey’s Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes, Arizona doesn’t seem to quite understand the gravity of what she’s done. “Arizona made a move and did some things and certainly that argument revealed a ton about who she is and how she feels about what’s going on,” Rhimes explains to The Hollywood Reporter. “How Arizona is going to figure out what what she did means is going to be interesting.”

During the big fight, Arizona didn’t seem to realize exactly what she had done to Callie and their relationship. Instead, she justified her actions with Callie’s from earlier in the season – obviously Arizona can’t lay to rest the issue of whether or not Callie made the right decision in the matter of her amputation.

So what’s next for the couple? In Grey’s Anatomy season 10, the show will be exploring how Callie is going to deal with her wife’s betrayal. as well as what the next move for her will be. Rhimes says, “What the bigger question is, is what’s Callie going to do next? Callie isn’t a victim; she’s never really been a victim and she’s been cheated on before with George. So how she’s going to take this and what she’s going to do next is going to be the bigger issue.”

The question for fans now is, will Callie forgive Arizona for her infidelity? Does Arizona even want to try and make it work anymore?
