Fear the Walking Dead season 2B promises more turmoil for the group as they reassess their roles as parents, children, and survivors.
Fear the Walking Dead continues to provide us with a different perspective. We still have more zombie apocalypse world experience than our ragtag crew, but their learning curve is rapidly catching them up.
Here is some of what season 2B promises when it premieres later this summer.
1. No Sanctuary
Showrunner Dave Erikson reiterates that the characters have enough zombie savvy now to know that they have to survive, and life is never going back. “There’s no talking to zombies this season.” They are fractured, and need to survive off their sanctuary The Abigail.
Mexico wasn’t chosen based on political concerns, but things have grown organically due to news stories. They will keep it there awhile, and use cultural elements. On a scale of 1-10 there is a 7.5 chance of using Dia de los Muertos elements.
2. Baja y mas
Producer Gale Ann Hurd states they are staying in the Mexican Baja region, not just the beach. All aspects of the region will be explored including Tijuana. Mission 29 is Gale’s favorite restaurant there.
3. Kirkman Speaks
Creator Robert Kirkman loves the world on the brink of turning because it opens up many opportunities. There are stories where technology still works, and certain types of supplies are more abundant. This abundance does make things intrinsically more dangerous.

4. Travis
Travis is still slowly adapting, but he has to accept that this world needs a bad ass first, maybe not a dad first. His code of honor may have to be readjusted. Travis can’t stand Strand, but he knows that Strand will take care of Madison when he goes off with Chris. Travis is just hoping that Madison is the stronger of the two to hold off a relationship.
5. Chris
Chris isn’t as far gone as people may think. Maybe he’s accepted the reality of the zombie universe more than everyone else. The character of Chris has changed Lorenzo the person because he is now more aware of the effects of bullying.
6. Madison
Madison is the ultimate planner who gets stuff done. She’s crossed a bridge, but it’s still her character. Part of her trusts that Nick can take care of himself, part of her is having trouble letting go.
7. Nick and Ofelia
Nick hasn’t totally given up on his family. He needs them to catch up to his level. As for the physicality of the show, the red fake blood is as sticky and miserable as you think in the baking heat of Mexico.
Ofelia had a great connection with Nick. They both saw the purity in everything. After time apart, they will need to see if they still connect given their separate experiences. She’s at the point where she’ll either crumble or become really strong. “When you have nothing to lose, you make crazy, fatalistic decisions…I want her to pull a Carol, and become a bad ass,” actress Mercedes Mason told Comic-Con attendees.
8. Alicia
Alicia is seeing the departure of Nick as a fresh start. She and her mother will now have a new relationship that isn’t based upon Nick. She feels that her mother starts to see her as an equal. Alycia the actress has loved the weapons skills she’s gotten.
9. Class Clown
Coleman, who plays Strand, is the official class clown as the blooper reel reveals when he does an epic Michael Jackson “Beat It” dance break. Coleman feels that Strand is trying to re-calibrate and reassess who and what he is. Without Thomas, he needs to make decisions as to where he goes, and who he trusts. Strand wants Madison; they are two survivors.
10. Luciana
Luciana and Nick form a “bond of orphans.” They both are alone in the world and have only each other. She has to acquaint Nick with the Mexican concept of the dead. It’s an experience that has rules that we’ve not seen before.
Fear the Walking Dead returns Sunday, August 21 at 9:00 on AMC.
