New comments from The Fault in Our Stars movie producers Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey indicate that the production is moving along at a good pace, and we get to hear how involved author John Green is with the project.
“He’s very involved. He’s read every draft. We talk to him all the time,” Bowen said in a new interview with MTV. “He loves the script, feels that we’ve captured everything that we could have hoped to capture in the book, so I think fans will be really happy with it.”
Funnily enough, MTV referenced John Green’s personal endorsement of actress Mae Whitman taking on the role of Hazel. That endorsement was spawned after we released our fantasy casting choices, which Whitman had shared on her own Twitter and Green replied to:
@maebirdwing For the record that would also make me happy. Plus we are both fans of @kittaveli!

The producers noted that no casting choices will be made until a director is on board, which presumably will happen in the next few weeks if there are plans to start this summer. “It’s tricky; you always want to do it with a director. We won’t pick an actor without the director,” said Godfrey. “The director really should be at the center of that, but the great news is we have our choice of the best actresses and actors of their generation.”
Speaking of The Fault In Our Stars‘ director, we have reason to believe Stephen Chbosky, author and director of The Perks of Being a Wallflower, may be up for the role.
