Actor Vin Diesel took to Instagram late last night to announce the release dates for the next three Fast & Furious movies.
Though we’ve known that Fast 8 is due out April 2017, Vin unveiled the two dates for the next two Fast movies too:
Fast & Furious 9 is coming out April 19, 2019, and Fast & Furious 10 arrives April 2, 2021.
The Fast & Furious series is in its prime right now, so it’s not surprising that the series is already plotting its tenth installment. The most recent movie in the franchise, Furious 7, made more money than any of the previous six installments both domestically and internationally.
Furious 7 was in the middle of shooting when lead actor Paul Walker died in a car accident unrelated to filming. After the cast and crew took some time off to regroup from the tragedy, the story underwent some rewrites to send off Walker’s character. The movie eventually hit theaters April 2015.
It’s a little too early to know if the Fast & Furious franchise will end after the 10th installment, but last November we learned that Universal was developing spinoffs focusing on particular characters. “We’ve written out story lines for various characters,” said Vin Diesel to Variety. “We’ve been playing with it for a long time. It’s a very rich property and we’re committed to treating it with a lot of class.”
So long as these movies keep making huge amounts of money, we don’t expect Dominic, Letty, and Hobbs to be leaving the theater anytime soon.
