Empire season 2 finale day is here! Will (spoiler) survive? Who’s getting married? Let’s find out!
The penultimate episode in Empire‘s second season was one for the books. Jamal basically all but told Freda that her father was killed at Lucious’ hand. Freda didn’t have more than 30 seconds worth of that knowledge before grabbing a security guard’s gun and heading after Lucious. Jamal jumped in front of her, possibly saving his father’s life, but also it seemed he was just trying to calm his friend down.
While the entire family is at the hospital awaiting news from Jamal’s surgery, Grandma Walker steps outside about to report to the press. What she’ll tell them we’ll hopefully find out in “Past is Prologue.” Here are our five predictions for the Empire season 2 finale.
Jamal survives the gunshot wound
Jamal cannot die. He is an integral part of the Lyon family and at times is the one to bring his brothers together. Lucious’ last words to his son cannot be, “When you get AIDS, I will celebrate.” This may be Lucious’ turning point or at least a closer step in him accepting his son for who he is and who he loves.
We also caught a glimpse of a possible life back with Michael a few episodes ago. There’s a possibility he may want to rekindle that relationship. If not, there’s always D-Major. Just kidding because that jerk can leave Jamal alone! Well, Jamal first needs to confront D for that slick move he pulled back at the studio. That’s what caused the argument between Jamal and Lucious in the first place. D-Major is a ‘no,’ and Michael or a new love interest would be ideal for Jamal in season 3!
We will find out if Anika really pushed Rhonda
In the promo for “Past is Prologue,” we see Rhonda finally confront Anika about the fall. While we know that the shoes that Rhonda saw were the same Louboutins with the red sole that Anika just so happens to own, it almost seems too easy for the culprit to be Anika. It’s easy to say that Anika has it in her to do something like that, she’s sneaky and does what she needs to do to make things happen for her. But killing an unborn child? That’s seriously hardcore.
Whether it was Anika or some shoe-borrower that did it, we better find out in the season 2 finale. Rhonda and Andre deserve to know who their child’s murderer is.
Lucious’ identity crisis will be in full force
The back half of season 2 has certainly put Lucious in the spotlight. The viewers have known for a while about Lucious’ birth-given name, Dwight Walker. He confided that information in his son, but just like with any other secret this family has, that secret was quick to come out the second there was a form of betrayal. Everyone was then introduced to the real Lucious Lyon — Dwight Walker.
When Cookie found out more about Lucious’ past she decided it’d be smart to make a music video out of it, because that’s what everyone does, right? Said music video, and Lucious, told the story of how his bi-polar suffering mother committed suicide right in front of him as a boy. Surprise, surprise, that wasn’t true either. Journalist Harper Scott (RIP!) discovered her true whereabouts and gave them to Andre.
Once Andre brought Grandma Walker to the family we all but spat in Lucious’ face. That is, until we realized what kind of hold Leah Walker has over her son. As well as those few screws that she has loose up there. Whether Leah decides to “come out” to the press outside the hospital or not, we’re sure we’ll be getting more of this story in the finale.
Hakeem and Laura will not get married, Cookie and Lucious will remarry
An Empire wedding?! What could go wrong? Well, I assume, a lot — a lot could go wrong. When you’re about to marry a well-known rapper with an even more well-known family it’s safe to assume that many people will be in attendance. Rappers, gangsters, ex-convicts and even white-collar individuals. Things will go down and Laura will want to get out ASAP. She’s too good to join this family. While the Lyons may have good intentions, at times, this shouldn’t be Laura’s endgame.
With Hakeem and Laura’s wedding in turmoil, what now? Well, with all the Lyon family and supporters in attendance, Lucious and Cookie may as well get hitched. They probably paid for this wedding anyway. Every time either Cookie or Lucious gets a new love interest the other throws shade their way. Cookie and Lucious are endgame, even though Cookie should tread very carefully.
Xzibit’s character will be a force to be reckoned with
Xzibit joins the list of other amazing guest stars from season 2, Alicia Keys, Rosie O’Donnell, Chris Rock and Ludacris. It seems like Xzibit (Leslie ‘Shyne’ Johnson), will be invited to Hakeem and Laura’s wedding and is a sort of rival to Lucious. We’ve seen the showdown between Cookie and other rivals but it’ll be refreshing to see Lucious go at it with someone who could possibly beat him at his own game.
