Speaking at a press event for The Bling Ring this week, Emma Watson revealed that she next plans to take on theater.
“I’d love to try theater. I’ve never done it before. I did some theater at Brown. I love the camaraderie of a theater group,” she said in a brief interview with USA Today. “As soon as I graduate, that’s my next (thing).”
Since wrapping the Harry Potter movie franchise in 2011, Watson shot several films including The Perks of Being a Wallflower, This is the End, My Week with Marilyn, and Noah. Unlike Harry Potter co-star Dan Radcliffe, Watson has been strictly staying in the movie business – until now.
As we reported several weeks ago, Watson plans on returning to Brown University to finish her degree this fall. While it’s not completely clear how much time she needs to wrap her education, we do see that she has a big new plan following her education.
Although she starred in a production of The Three Sisters at Brown, Watson, we’re sure, will call up Radcliffe for some advice on getting into theater. The actor’s first big post-Potter move was a role in Equus on London and Broadway stages. He went on to star in the musical How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. Starting this month he will star in the West End’s The Cripple of Inishmaan (through August). Perhaps Watson’s decision drew inspiration from Radcliffe’s three great roles.
After the film Noah for Darren Aronofsky, Watson has no other films lined up. We’re now thinking it’s entirely clear so that she can execute not only her Brown plan but her theatrical one as well.
Thanks to USA Today for the interview.
