The BBC has just announced that Doctor Who will reappear for the second half of the current series on Easter Sunday in the U.K.
There is no word yet regarding air times in the USA or Australia, but given that there was a huge rise in audience when the shows aired mere hours rather than weeks apart it seems likely that pattern would continue.
EDITED: BBC America confirmed as of 2:15pm that Doctor Who would air at 9:00pm on March 30, 2013.
According to the BBC:
We can confirm that Doctor Who returns to BBC One during the Easter weekend on Saturday, 30 March, 2013.
The Doctor is back in a fantastic adventure written by the show’s lead writer and executive producer, Steven Moffat. The episode – the first in a run of 8 – is directed by Colm McCarthy whose previous credits include Hustle, Spooks and Endeavour.
Later adventures in the run include episodes written by Mark Gatiss (Victory of the Daleks, Night Terrors) and Neil Gaiman.
On top of this news, the official Doctor Who site has an interview with Production Designer Michael Pickwoad, the man behind the new look of the TARDIS. He spoke about his design inspirations and what exactly the Daleks have to do with the new look.
The feeling of technical precision in the Hadron Collider, the world’s largest and highest- energy atomic particle accelerator, Hi-Tec Architecture and what might Barnes Wallis, the great inventor engineer who I once had the privilege of meeting, have come up with, were some the of the inspirations…The new design incorporates enough lights as part of the design to basically light the set for wide shots. They can be made to chase round the set to give a sense of motion or acceleration, and turn red for danger. The pairs of blue and amber circular lights on the gallery were based on Dalek head rings, a not inapposite reference for TARDIS evolution.
