A newly-announced theme park in England has signed a deal with the BBC, opening the door for shows like Doctor Who and Sherlock to get their own attractions.
London Resort Company Holdings has teamed up with BBC Worldwide for their upcoming London Paramount Entertainment Resort so that popular British shows can have their own attractions.
The new entertainment resort – with a budget of a whopping £2 billion – is scheduled to open in Kent in 2020.
London Paramount Entertainment Resort will have a big focus of film properties. As you may’ve guessed, the attractions will be based on Paramount films. Concept art suggests that of the 12 major rides planned, one will be set in the Star Trek world:
Other shows believed to have a shot at appearing in the park include BBC hits like Top Gear.
Said Stephen Davies, director of BBC Worldwide’s live events, “We’re always looking for opportunities to extend fans’ enjoyment of their favourite shows and the idea behind this resort is a really exciting way of celebrating the very special place the BBC has in British culture.”
What kind of ‘Sherlock’ or ‘Doctor Who’ attractions would you like to see?
While the BBC isn’t ready to say what shows they’re going to bring into the park, we’re eagerly awaiting any and all future announcements.
One common complaint about Universal’s Wizarding World of Harry Potter attractions is that there are no plans to open one in England, where, you know, J.K. Rowling’s story is set. With that in mind, the new Paramount theme park will surely please viewers of BBC programming.
We also suspect that London Paramount Entertainment Resort will be a big draw for fans of BBC programming who don’t live in the homeland if they end up using properties like Who and Sherlock.
