After Doctor Who skipped 2014, Peter Capaldi will make his Hall H debut at this year’s SDCC.
The BBC have announced that Doctor Who stars Peter Capaldi (The Doctor), Jenna Coleman (Clara Oswald), and Michelle Gomez (Missy) will appear alongside head writer Steven Moffat and executive producer Brian Minchin for the 2015 Doctor Who panel. The event will take place in Hall H on Thursday, July 9.
Previous Doctor Matt Smith was a regular staple and fan favorite of the yearly convention during his time in the TARDIS, but when the show decided to skip 2014’s event, Whovians were disappointed they wouldn’t get to see the new Doctor in the flesh. Thankfully, the Twelfth Doctor, Peter Capaldi, will make his debut at the convention later this year.
“Tales of San Diego Comic-Con are told in awe on every set around the known fantasy/sci-fi production world,” said an excitable Capaldi. “It’s become a fabled kingdom. One I am thrilled to find myself heading for. And to appear in the legendary Hall H, is a further twist to the cosplay madness I may never recover from.”
Judging by his previous heartwarming interactions with fans, the World War Z and The Thick of It actor will cause quite the storm in just over a month’s time. Convention goers will also be excited to hear from Michelle Gomez about taking on the iconic role of the Master, and get Jenna Coleman’s verdict on what could well be her last season on the show.
Previous Doctor Who panels have been full of treats, with the 2012 audience being treated to several clips from season 7 long ahead of its debut. In 2013, Whovians got to feast their eyes on and exclusive trailer for the 50th anniversary special, “The Day of The Doctor” – so attendees might be the first to see footage from season 9.
Doctor Who will return to BBC One and BBC America this fall, with Steven Moffat’s two-parter “The Magician’s Apprentice” and “The Witch’s Farmiliar.” The episodes will also be directed by Hettie Macdonald, the acclaimed director of season 3’s “Blink.”
