Doctor Who and David Tennant: Are there two things that go together better than this? Here’s why we need some 10th Doctor love.
This week there were various sightings in Cardiff of David Tennant and the former Doctor Who showrunner Russell T. Davies. Now, as much as we would like to believe that Tennant could have a cameo in the upcoming series or Doctor Who Christmas Special, to us it seems about as likely as the Doctor and the Daleks having a group hug, agreeing to let bygones be bygones, and singing Kumbaya over a couple of brews.

For one thing, the BBC has gotten better in recent years about controlling their story. Whenever a major guest star is in being filmed for an episode, such as Maisie Williams, they’ve announced it ahead of time. Barring the person being filmed outdoors, they’ve been pretty cagey, and kept the person well under wraps. It’s hard to imagine that Tennant and Davies, two people who practically wrote the playbook on keeping all things Doctor Who under wraps (code word “Torchwood” anyone?), would be naive enough to walk around Cardiff together at the height of tourism season and think no one would notice.
Here’s our take on the situation, and we’d really love to be proven wrong on this one! Roath Lock is a major filming hub in the U.K. Countless productions use this state-of-the-art facility. It’s also the home to the Doctor Who Experience. We are thinking it’s a whole lot more likely that the pair are doing something for that, or prepping something for the upcoming Doctor Who Festival. Maybe they are filming a short video destined for YouTube, similar to Time Crash, but a whole episode seems unlikely.
Anyway, all of this got us to thinking. If David Tennant was really returning to Doctor Who, how would we like to see him appear?
1. Explain the face
Peter Capaldi, the current reigning Doctor, played a character in “The Fires of Pompeii” episode during Tennant’s run. Maybe there could be some sort of prequel/flashback as to how the Doctor ends up with this guy, of all people’s, face! If they go this route, can they please bring back Catherine Tate too?
2. Paradox
Who doesn’t love a good paradox? It’s happened more times than we can count in both old and new Doctor Who. Give us some good old wibbly wobbly by the guy who first spoke those immortal words!
3. Flashback Master Advice
The Master is back in the form of Missy, and the last time he/she showed up was the 10th Doctor’s reign. How about some kind of scene that we didn’t see the last time? Can we bridge that with the regeneration from John Simm’s Master to Michelle Gomez’s Master? We all want to see that regeneration.
4. Three words: Russell T. Davies
So technically those aren’t all words, but still, we haven’t had a Russell T. Davies’ penned episode since Tennant left and Steven Moffat replaced Davies as the showrunner. If Davies directed an upcoming episode, how awesome would it be to have a 10th Doctor flashback and maybe even one with Captain Jack?
5. He’s David Tennant for eff’s sake, he could/should do whatever he wants
OK, so maybe this isn’t very professional of us, but we are kind of Tennant fans. Arguably, the majority of the new Doctor Who fans fell in love with Doctor Who during Tennant’s reign. Christopher Eccelston launched the Doctor Who reboot, but Tennant solidified its success. We got to Matt Smith and Peter Capaldi because of Tennant’s legacy of making the show appeal to a modern audience.
