We’ve known for a while that the book-to-film adaptation of Veronica Roth’s Divergent would begin shooting in April, and it looks like today is the day actual shooting begins.
The news was shared by On Location Vacations, which is a trusted source for filming information:
Tomorrow is first official day of filming for #Divergent in #Chicago, might be at 600 S Wells St location, stay tuned for updates!

The majority of filming is expected to take place in Chicago, where the book’s storyline is set. The cast and crew have been busy preparing for the start of filming over the past few weeks. For example, Miles Teller (Peter) arrived in town to begin training in late March. Presumably the rest of the lead cast arrived around the same time.
Theo James will play Four, Kate Winslet will play Jeanine, Jai Courtney will play Eric, Maggie Q will play Tori, Zoe Kravitz will play Christina, Ansel Elgort will play Caleb, Christian Madsen will play Al, Ben Lamb will play Edward, and Ben Lloyd-Hughes will play Will. Shailene Woodley will take the lead role of Tris.
The Divergent trilogy was written by Veronica Roth, and book three is due out this October. The film will be directed by Neil Berger, and the script was penned by Evan Daughtery and Vanessa Taylor. Divergent opens in theaters March 21, 2014.
If on-set photos surface, we’ll be sure (and extremely excited) to share them with you.
