Walt Disney Animation Studios’ next movie, Zootopia, is still nine months away, so the first trailer wants to educate you on the film’s all-animal world.
The Zootopia trailer gives you a lesson on anthropomorphic animals (they’re animals who walk on two feet and wear clothes) and lets you know that there are no humans in this movie. We also learn a little about the stars of Zootopia who will be at odds with one another, and not only because one is a fox (voiced by Jason Bateman) and the other is a bunny (Ginnifer Goodwin).
While the trailer doesn’t clue us in on the plot, the glimpses of numerous animals and their varying personalities suggest that the world of Zootopia is going to be very detailed. Disney appears to be bringing the little personality traits of countless different animals to the screen (like the slow movements of the sloth) which should make for a fun viewing experience.
“The modern mammal metropolis of Zootopia is a city like no other. Comprised of habitat neighborhoods like ritzy Sahara Square and frigid Tundratown, it’s a melting pot where animals from every environment live together — a place where no matter what you are, from the biggest elephant to the smallest shrew, you can be anything,” reads the film’s synopsis. “But when optimistic Officer Judy Hopps (voice of Ginnifer Goodwin) arrives, she discovers that being the first bunny on a police force of big, tough animals isn’t so easy. Determined to prove herself, she jumps at the opportunity to crack a case, even if it means partnering with a fast-talking, scam-artist fox, Nick Wilde (voice of Jason Bateman), to solve the mystery.
Zootopia opens in theaters March 4, 2016. It’s directed by Byron Howard (Tangled, Bolt) and Rich Moore (Wreck-It Ralph).
Though Walt Disney Animation Studios isn’t releasing any films in 2015 (instead Disney’s Pixar has two), next year will usher in two movies from the studio: Zootopia and Moana.
