We pull back the curtains and see what the crew of Dexter has been doing this very week as filming begins for the eighth season. New cast members, Valentine’s Day, photos and more!
Dexter is back in production this week for, potentially, its final season, and we thought shedding some light on what goes on behind Showtime’s flagship show is exactly what fans would love to see. Many of the production crew within the realms of Dexter share the exact same excitement that the fans do, and thankfully, they do share all kinds of media across social networking sites. So here’s a breakdown of what’s happened this working week behind closed doors at Sunset Gower Studios in Los Angeles.
Monday
It’s nearly the night (when we start shooting.) And it’s going to happen again and again… Aghhhhh!!!!!

Awesome tweet there, Jennifer Carpenter! If there was one tweet to bring a whole new level of excitement to Dexter fans, this was it. Shooting was happening imminently after we heard last week that the cast had its first read through of the script. Which of course Carpenter tweeted about. She, much akin to her on screen character, just loves to not keep her mouth shut. But to the delight of fans, knowing that the filming of season 8 was right around the corner would excite the entirety of the fanbase.
Tuesday
Tuesday brought us something completely unique for Dexter fans to witness, and quite possibly one of the best behind the scenes images fans could have hoped for. Scott Reynolds, one of Dexter‘s writers, instagram’d a fantastic photo of one of the new Miami Metro Police Squad vehicles. Just look at this.
Let’s hope Dexter is being dragged away in this come the season finale, hey?
Wednesday
Wednesday was the day we’d all been waiting for. We reported that Dexter season 8 had officially begun filming.
“and…….ACTION!” #DEXTER season 8 begins……….

Did I mention Keith Gordon is here shooting day one of season 8 of #Dexter? #IDidNow
— Scott Reynolds (@jscottamy) February 13, 2013
Keith Gordon, who directed a total of 10 episodes of Dexter from 2006-2010, has been reunited with the backroom staff and is back to direct and shoot several more episodes for season 8. Gordon last directed 05×10, “In The Beginning” back in November 2010 and hasn’t been involved with Dexter until now. It’ll be great to have his creative flair back. What a fantastic Wednesday.
Thursday
Happy Valentine’s Day Dexter fans!
First costume fitting today with Ms. Charlotte Rampling. Ridiculously excited. #DEXTER
— Kathleen Felix Hager (@kathleenhager) February 14, 2013
Hager returned again to drop fans some more news, but this time regarding one of season 8’s latest instalments, Ms. Charlotte Rampling. Rampling will join the upcoming season as Dr. Evelyn Vogel, a smart neuro-psychiatrist who will assist the Miami Metro in profiling criminals, and more specifically, we believe she will be the woman to work out who killed Maria La Guerta in season 7’s finale. Be careful, Michael C. Hall, she’s onto you.
And to finish off Thursday evening, Jennifer Carpenter also had a surprise, but mainly for herself.
Behind Chris Pappas is Deb’s new ride! Can you believe they trust me with it…? twitter.com/J2thecarpenter…
— Jennifer carpenter (@J2thecarpenter) February 14, 2013
Debra Morgan has been handed a new car. Rest in Piece BMW 3 series, you served her well. Let’s hope she doesn’t total this one after Hannah McKay drugged her water bottle last time out.
Friday
Tomorrow, 6am, Season 8!
— Jennifer carpenter (@J2thecarpenter) February 14, 2013
Debra Morgan lives again as of Friday 6am! Okay, so this tweet did go out Thursday evening, but Friday is the day that Jennifer Carpenter once again reprises her role as Debra Morgan.
Friday also gave us the news that Nick Gomez will guest star in season 8 as Javier Guzman, who will be nicknamed El Sapo, and will reportedly become frustrated by Debra’s efforts to disrupt his plans.
Next week
We now move into the weekend, and it’s been a great first week back in the office for Dexter‘s production staff and fans alike. We’ll be keeping a close eye on what’s happening behind closed doors and bring a weekly roundup of all the Dexter news you could ever need next Friday.
