Fox reportedly wants the co-director of John Wick to take on Deadpool 2 after Tim Miller dropped out.
Update: It’s official! David Leitch will direct Deadpool 2, according to Deadline.
The stunt coordinator-turned-director allegedly beat out Drew Goddard and Magnus Martens for the job.
Original story: After the whooping success of Deadpool, the sequel seemed like a surefire hit, and yet here we are: Tim Miller has left the project after creative clashes with Ryan Reynolds, leaving the film without a director.
Fans now want Quentin Tarantino to step in. Ryan Reynolds (probably) wants to do it himself. And now, it looks like 20th Century Fox has another option on the table: David Leitch, who co-directed John Wick with Chad Stahelski.
Mashable claims that stunt coordinator-turned-director Leitch is a “strong frontrunner” for the job, having already worked with Reynolds on X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

We don’t know how this would gel with Reynolds, who was reportedly given more creative control over the sequel, which led to increasing tension with Miller. Having a new director come in and try to make the film his own likely wouldn’t sit well with the Deadpool star, although Leitch might be more inclined to take Reynolds’ lead.
Leitch’s next project is The Coldest City, a spy thriller starring Charlize Theron, James McAvoy, John Goodman and Sofia Boutella.
He is also attached to direct the bizarrely-titled Cowboy Ninja Viking, a comic book adaptation with Chris Pratt in the lead role.
Deadpool 2 is scheduled for a March 2018 release, and is testing actresses for new female lead character Domino. The movie should begin filming in early 2017, which gives Fox a short window to find a replacement director for Tim Miller.
