David Bradley has made quite a career of playing iconic villains such as Argus Filch in Harry Potter and Walder Frey in Game of Thrones. Doctor Who is going to be no exception. *SPOILERS*
In acknowledgment of his diverse career, Warwick University, his alma mater, granted David Bradley an honorary degree in literature. During a university podcast, while discussing his varied roles, he revealed the following about his upcoming role on Doctor Who in the “Dinosaurs on a Spaceship” episode where he plays the ship’s captain named Solomon.
He is actually a space pirate who is modeled on a well-known nightclub owner with long hair and he has lots of scars. He wears head to foot in black leather. He’s an old space pirate who runs a [inaudible: presumably ship ] the size of Canada. He has two giant robots who are a bit rusty, and he got them both two-for-one at some robot convention. It was just great working with Matt[Smith]. He is a terrific actor. We had a lot of fun together. It was a great part.
Bradley’s first Whovian appearance was on the Sarah Jane Adventures as the voice of Shansheeth Blue in the episodes in which Matt Smith guest starred entitled “Death of the Doctor”. He also expressed really enjoying actually getting to interact this time around directly with Smith, rather than just providing a voice to the series.
Any thoughts as to what famous night club owner is the model for the character?
