Dancing with the Stars is continuing an overhaul of the show for the coming season by hiring a new co-host for Tom Bergeron: Erin Andrews.
Erin Andrews is a sports reporter for Fox Sports, and came in third place on season 10 of DwtS (that was one of the best seasons, and Andrews lost to Evan Lysacek and Nicole Sherzinger). She was partnered with Maks Chmerkovskiy.
Season 10 was also when the previous co-host, Brooke Burke, began her eight-season tenure. Burke was let go two days ago, and released a statement saying, “I’ve seen my fair share of shocking eliminations in the ballroom but this one takes the cake.” It was originally thought that Burke would not even be replaced, since Tom Bergeron seems capable of hosting all by himself, and DwtS appears to be trying to cut corners lately: last season they did away with the results show, and for this coming season they did away with the Harold Wheeler Band.
The Band will be missed much more than Brooke Burke, whose co-hosting usually consisted of asking contestants how they felt. The debate is still open for whether Brooke Burke was a step up or step down from Samantha Harris, who hosted seasons 2 through 9.
Season 18 will begin on March 17, and the cast will be announced on Good Morning America on March 4. We don’t know who among the pros will be back – hopefully Kym Johnson will return after taking last season off. The current reigning champions of DwtS, after a very emotional season, are Derek Hough and Glee star, Amber Riley.
