After Gabe Newell said Valve would sell their own hardware if necessary in an interview last week, many wrote it off as nothing more than interesting fodder for gaming enthusiasts. However, it may be more of a possibility than anyone thought.
According to a new report from The Verge, Valve may very well be close to announcing their very own platform to compete with consoles, dubbed the Steam Box. Even more surprising, the announcement of said box may come as soon as next week at the Game Developers Conference.
Citing “uncovered information” from unnamed sources, the blog says Valve is working on micro-sized PCs that would offer full access to the Steam library of games in a streamline console experience.
The Verge claims the announcement of the Steam Box could come as soon as next week’s GDC or that Valve may hold off until E3 for the unveil.
While this could be just one serious rumor, if it does turn out to be correct, it could be a serious game changer in the video game world.
Just a thought to you leave you with: What if Valve is holding off on releasing Half Life 3 for their new hardware?
