Warning: this video may make you experience extreme levels of empowerment and solidarity.
American Crime Story and Nashville star Connie Britton lends her face, her voice and most importantly her hair to this feminism-themed video from The Representation Project, which aims not only to inform viewers of current feminist issues, but to poke fun at traditional female beauty advertisements.
Acting like she’s in a clichéd shampoo advert, Britton tells us the secret of her gorgeous hair: it’s feminism, you guys. Use daily.
Britton enthuses, “When used regularly, feminism has been known to produce amazing results! Such as a woman’s right to vote, a woman’s right to her own body, a woman’s right to become a kickass athlete, the Violence Against Women Act, the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Restoration Act, and more!”
“But what if I don’t need feminism?” A worried young woman asks. “Trust me girl,” Britton tells her, “you do.”
This special brand of personal care just might make you glow with the knowledge that your status as a woman does not make you inferior, nor is it something you need to be ashamed of.

Britton’s PSA is an expansion of The Representation Project’s #AskHerMore campaign, which aims to get reporters to ask women more substantial questions on the Red Carpet than “Who are you wearing?”
The bit was written and directed by Britton’s Nashville co-star Laura Benanti, and co-produced by Ashley Van Buren.
We’re big fans of The Representation Project, which is making great strides towards gender equality in Hollywood. Gender equality is important for everyone, but since Hollywood dictates so much of our culture, it’s a good place to start.
