Rupert Everett, best known for his voice roles in The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe and the Shrek sequels, will make his directorial debut in the upcoming Oscar Wilde biopic, The Happy Prince.
The King’s Speech Colin Firth will star as the Irish writer. Emily Watson (Hilary and Jackie) and Tom Wilkinson (Michael Clayton) are in negotiations to act alongside Firth.
Everett, who co-starred with Firth in the Wilde adaptation An Ideal Husband (1999), will pen the script to The Happy Prince. The film will look at Wilde’s final, tragic days as he looks back on the disasters of his life with characteristic dry wit and black humor.
Shooting is planned to start in summer 2013.
