Clark Gregg pulled out all the stops — and wife Jennifer Grey — to defeat Hayley Atwell in their Lip Sync Battle showdown.
Round one of the highly-anticipated Lip Sync Battle kicked off with strong performances from both of the Marvel Television leads. Hayley Atwell (Peggy Carter on Agent Carter) danced along to “Pretty Fly for a White Guy” by The Offspring, while Clark Gregg (Director Coulson on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) debuted Wreckx-N-Effect’s “Rump Shaker.”
Then it was time for the main attraction — and right from the start, it seemed clear that Gregg was going to steal the show. Prancing out on stage in an appallingly skimpy flight attendant uniform, the actor jiggled, gyrated, and lip-synced to the recreation of Britney Spears’ music video for “Toxic” that we never knew we needed.
The audacious dance was capped off with a surprise appearance by Gregg’s wife, dancer and actress Jennifer Grey, in another gender-bending role.
Atwell followed with a latex-clad performance of “Bad Romance” by Lady Gaga. As impressive and gravity-defying as Atwell’s rendition was, it was pretty clear that Gregg’s booty-shaking was going to be hard to beat.
And in fact, it was Gregg who was awarded the victory belt by the voting studio audience.
“I feel really honored,” the actor said, clutching his belt. “I thought Hayley’s numbers were amazing. I was expecting to go home empty handed.”
Gregg and Atwell’s highly-anticipated showdown was the final (anyway, most recent) installment in a long-running lip sync war. The “hostilities,” up until now waged over the app Dubsmash, began at last year’s San Diego Comic-Con and escalated to a charity battle in early fall.
Hayley Atwell was determined the winner of both contests, making Gregg’s victory on Lip Sync Battle all the more of a surprise. Now, Team S.H.I.E.L.D. finally has a victory to their name — and there will be more than just pride at stake if Atwell and Team Carter elect to suggest another round of Dubsmash Wars.
