We’ve all wondered it at one point or another. Even though The Joker’s crimes are 8 years old in The Dark Knight Rises, we can’t help but wonder if any Gothamites will bring up the dude that tried to blow up everything.
In a recent interview with the director in Empire Magazine (via CBM), Nolan revealed if his vision for The Dark Knight Rises comes complete with an explanation of what happened to The Joker at the end of The Dark Knight. Those of us with decent memories may remember seeing him last dangling upside-down from a skyscraper with a dozen rifles in his face. Will anyone in Gotham bring up the time that a clown blew up Gotham General? Will nobody mention the guy that killed Batman’s girlfriend?
“We’re not addressing The Joker at all. That is something I felt very strongly about in terms of my relationship with Heath and the experience I went through with him on The Dark Knight. I didn’t want to in any way try and account for a real-life tragedy. That seemed inappropriate to me. We just have a new set of characters and a continuation of Bruce Wayne’s story. Not involving The Joker.”
It’s very understandable in our opinion. What do you think? Would The Dark Knight Rises be different if Heath Ledger were still alive today?
