Continuing with the recent trend of having former cast members host the show, Chris Rock will host SNL alongside musical guest Prince.
NBC announced that Chris Rock will host SNL with musical guest Prince on November 1. Rock, who made his comedy debut on SNL back in 1990, was a cast member for three seasons.
Rock is also part of what is best known as the “Bad Boys of SNL“: a group of eventual Hollywood megastars that included Rock, Chris Farley, David Spade, Adam Sandler and Rob Schneider. Rock also has his own “Best of Chris Rock” DVD which features some of his most memorable sketches from his time at Studio 8H.
Rock has only hosted SNL once since departing the cast which was back in 1996 along with musical guest The Wallflowers. After Rock hosts, three of the first five hosts of this season will have been SNL alumni (Sarah Silverman and Bill Hader the others).
It will be a night of legends as Prince himself will be joining Rock as the musical guest on November 1. Prince, whose career spans nearly 40 years, will be promoting his latest double release “Plectrumelectrum” / “Art Official Age.”
Last week’s alum-hosted episode of SNL with Bill Hader was reportedly tied with the worst ever ratings for the late night comedy show – the other being Charlize Theron’s episode in May of this year.
SNL takes a brief hiatus and returns with host Jim Carrey and musical guest Iggy Azalea on October 25.
