From outer space to dinosaur country and now to the high seas Chris Pratt goes, swashbuckling his way to stardom in The Real McCoy.
It’s no secret that Chris Pratt has found the golden ticket to Hollywood, an all-access pass to pretty much any and all major franchises he so desires a role in — provided, of course, that his already packed schedule allows it.
Between Guardians of the Galaxy 2 (and 3) and potential Jurassic World sequels, as well as the recently announced The Magnificent Seven, it’s not so much a question of Pratt wanting to be involved with dream projects like Indiana Jones or Cowboy Ninja Viking, but a question of whether scientists have yet created the means necessary to be in several places at once.

Standalone projects, however, are more easily arranged. And that’s probably a key reason why Pratt has chosen The Real McCoy as his next movie — that, and the fact that he’ll get to wear a fedora, we’re sure.
The Hollywood Reporter first broke the news late Wednesday. Although the fact that Pratt was signed on to the project isn’t news, nothing was certain until the studio that signed him (Universal) won the bidding war. The other major contender was Warner Bros., who probably had another leading man lined up.

The Real McCoy is written by Bill Dubuque, and tells the story of real-life bootlegger Bill McCoy, a sea captain and rum runner smuggler during Prohibition.
Interestingly, the man who made a living smuggling rum from the Bahamas to the Eastern Seaboard never touched a drink himself, and wanted people to know him as, “an honest lawbreaker.”
