The Lego Movie‘s Oscar snub may not be the Academy’s fault. Maybe Charlie Day really is “awards poison.”
When the 2015 Oscars nominations were announced, the Academy was widely criticized for snubbing The Lego Movie, which did not get a nod in the Best Animated Feature category.
Ironically, The Lego Movie was nominated for a Critics’ Choice Award in the same category, and won the award a few days later, beating out most of the animations actually nominated for an Oscar.

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia actor Charlie Day lent his voice to The Lego Movie, playing the hilarious vintage space Lego figure Benny. And in a new interview with IGN, Day jokes that the snub was actually his fault.
“Ten years of It’s Always Sunny being overlooked [by the Emmys], you can’t help but feel like you’re awards poison,” Day muses.
As for whether his character will appear in the Lego Movie sequel, Day admits, “I don’t know. I certainly hope he is.”
Creators Phil Lord and Chris Miller have previously hinted that the second movie may have female protagonists — or at least, “more female characters and more female stuff.”
The 2015 Academy Awards ceremony takes place this Sunday. It is hosted by Neil Patrick Harris, who will literally put on a song and dance to keep you entertained.
