The Big Bang Theory just keeps getting bigger, as CBS orders three more seasons of the geeky comedy.
In a rare multi-season renewal, CBS announced today that it has ordered three further seasons of their top-rated comedy, The Big Bang Theory. The deal will carry the show, currently in its seventh season, through to its tenth year in 2017.
Nina Tassler, chairman of CBS Entertainment, spoke enthusiastically about the The Big Bang Theory and the show’s renewal. “Comedy is a big part of our schedule, and The Big Bang Theory is the biggest comedy force on television,” she said. “This multi-year deal further strengthens our network’s position for future seasons and marks another chapter in the great partnership CBS enjoys with Warner Bros. Television for delivering audiences the best in comedy.”
Though The Big Bang Theory‘s previous multi-year deal was set to expire at the end of this season, Variety confirms that the renewal went smoothly for all parties. It certainly seems likely that CBS will be glad to have the geeky comedy providing reliable ratings in its lineup. Though the network airs several strong comedies, the quirky and popular How I Met Your Mother has only four more episodes to air before it concludes its nine-season run on CBS.
The Big Bang Theory season 7 has seen a few changes come into the lives of Sheldon, Leonard, and the rest. Penny recently quit her steady job as a waitress to pursue acting full-time, and continues to struggle with that decision. At the same time, Sheldon and Amy had their first honest-to-goodness lip-lock earlier this season, and the question of whether their relationship will become physical continues to percolate.
The Big Bang Theory season 7, episode 18, “The Mommy Observation,” will air tomorrow night at 8:00 p.m. on CBS. According to the preview and stills for the episode, it looks like it may be rather scarring for Sheldon – though hopefully, not for us.
