Though we had thought filming on Catching Fire was entirely wrapped as reports had indicated, it seems that The Hunger Games sequel will shoot additional scenes this March.
The news came by way of lead actress Jennifer Lawrence (Katniss) in an interview with The Belfast Telegraph. “We’re kind of on a little break,” she said. “We’ll go back and finish principal photography in March sometime I think.”
Catching Fire’s cast and crew were in Hawaii until the end of December to film the arena scenes. They were believed to have wrapped at that time because Lawrence was scheduled to begin shooting X-Men: Days of Future Past sometime early this year. However, X-Men’s production schedule has been rocked following director Matthew Vaughn’s departure from the project. In October, we learned Bryan Singer will replace Vaughn.
Additional filming time for Catching Fire is good news because it means they didn’t have to rush as much as we had feared they would. They may use the filming time in March to hold a couple reshoots or simply tackle entirely new material.
Jennifer Lawrence was prominent at last night’s Golden Globe Awards because she won Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical for Silver Linings Playbook. When accepting her award, she jokingly said that the statue read, “I beat Meryl.”
This morning, Lionsgate released high-res Catching Fire photos.
