The BBC has released the first trailer for the book to television adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s The Casual Vacancy.
The brief preview offers first looks at several actors in their roles, including Harry Potter alum Sir Michael Gambon as Howard Mollison, the leader of the town’s Parish Council, and Abigail Lawrie as Krystal Weedson (pictured above), who wishes to get away from her mother.
The Casual Vacancy trailer starts bright but then depicts the dark side of Pagford set off by the death of Barry Fairbrother.
The trailer is light on plot details but will surely pique the interest of those who’ve read the book, or are interested in what a show based on a J.K. Rowling book could be like.
Earlier this week we shared a review of episode 1 which said the show is better than the book.
The Casual Vacancy premieres Sunday, February 15 on BBC One and consists of three episodes. It’ll air in the United States in the spring.
The series filmed last summer in South West England. A synopsis for the show reads, “The Casual Vacancy centres on Pagford, a seemingly idyllic English village with a cobbled market square and ancient abbey. Behind the pretty façade, however, is a town at war: rich at war with poor, teenagers at war with their parents, wives at war with their husbands, teachers at war with their pupils.”
